FIVE INJURED OVER CHIEFTAINCY TUSSLE IN ADAMAWA
Five persons have sustained varying degrees of injury during a clash over a traditional stool in Mijilu Community in Mubi North Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
Some of the victims sustained grievious injuries while exchanging fire over the stool on Monday, and presently receiving treatment at a hospital in Mubi.
The clash followed the election of the new Village Head of the Community, Shua'ibu Ka'inga, who happens to be the son of the late royal father of the Community, Adamu Ka'inga.
Shuaibu's election was vehemently opposed by 2 other Contenders as well as some of his subjects who rejected him over allegation of unsavouring behaviour of grabbing other people’s land like his late father.
He was elected following the demise of his father and the then traditional ruler, Adamu, who was first accused of dispossessing and selling several percerls of land belonging to his subjects.
Sources told NEWS PLATFORM that it was as a result of the resistance that his supporters, and that of other Contestants as well as other subjects clashed on Monday this week which left 5 injured.
Reacting over the incident, the Commissioner of Police, S. K. Akande, strongly condemned the act, and ordered for full scale investigation into the incident.
CP Akande, in a statement by SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Spokesman of the Command ordered for immediate investigation into the matter with a view to ensuring peace and justice to all parties, and cautioned against the unruly behaviour of the youth.
He warned that those taking laws into their hands would no longer be tolerated under guise, explaining that the command holds the right of the citizens sacrosanct and such unwarranted clash would be strictly treated in accordance with extant laws.
He mandated all Divisional Police Officers, Operational Commanders and their Supervisory Area Commanders to ensure that the already existing peace being enjoyed is sustained.
He further assured that the command's operational asset will be deployed to detect and arrest individuals or groups found disrupting the peace of the public.
