Michika Concerned Citizens Condemn Former Governor Boni Haruna for Disrespecting Paramount Ruler HRM Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga

The Michika Concerned Citizens (MCC) in Adamawa State have strongly criticised former Governor Boni Haruna over what they described as an act of gross disrespect towards the Paramount Ruler of Michika Chiefdom, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga.

In a statement issued by the group’s leadership, the citizens expressed deep disappointment over the former governor’s conduct, describing it as a betrayal of the people of Michika and a reflection of failed leadership.

Leadership Failure and Neglect During His Tenure

According to the MCC, Boni Haruna’s actions towards the Paramount Ruler and the Michika Chiefdom have exposed his long-standing disregard for his community. They recalled that during his eight-year tenure as Governor of Adamawa State, Haruna failed to liberate or develop Michika Chiefdom, leaving the people “oppressed, voiceless, and neglected.”

The group stated:

“Leadership is not about titles, wealth, or education it is about responsibility, sacrifice, and courage. Unfortunately, during Boni Haruna’s reign, Michika Chiefdom suffered under external oppression while their supposed leader turned a blind eye.”

They accused the former governor of allowing fear, complacency, and self-interest to overshadow the hopes of his people. Despite holding the highest political office in the state, they said, he did not rise to the occasion or create the Michika Chiefdom, something that remained a long-standing aspiration of the community.

Fintiri’s Leadership as a Turning Point for Michika

The group contrasted Haruna’s tenure with that of Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the current Governor of Adamawa State, whom they praised for being a “leader of courage, humility, and determination.”

They said Governor Fintiri took decisive steps to restore the dignity of Michika people, unite the community, and bring about the long-awaited recognition of the Michika Chiefdom.

“When history presented a second chance through Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the story changed,” the statement read.

“Fintiri confronted challenges head-on, restored confidence, and brought peace where despair once prevailed. Under his leadership, the chiefdom witnessed true liberation and progress.”

Disrespect Towards the Monarch

The MCC expressed outrage over Boni Haruna’s recent refusal to acknowledge the presence of HRM Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga during a public event the funeral service of the late Yakubu Tsala marking the first time both men were in the same venue since the monarch’s installation.

Instead of showing remorse or extending congratulations, the former governor allegedly ignored the traditional ruler entirely during his speech.

“Such behavior is unbecoming of a former leader,” the group lamented.

“It is not only an insult to His Royal Majesty but also a betrayal of the very people he once vowed to serve.”

They further disclosed that Haruna had declined participation in the process leading to the creation and installation of the Michika Chiefdom, despite being nominated to play a role in the historic milestone.

“While other communities celebrated and honoured their new traditional leaders, Boni Haruna chose silence, arrogance, and disengagement. Instead of humility and reflection, he displayed bitterness and pride,” the group stated.

Call for Reflection and Humility

The Michika Concerned Citizens said the former governor’s conduct represents a bad example for future generations and called on him to reflect deeply on his actions.

“True leaders celebrate the progress of their people even when they are not in the spotlight,” the statement continued.

“They mentor the next generation, support their community, and put the people first — not their ego.”

They emphasized that leadership should be anchored on respect, humility, and service, not personal glory or self-importance.

“History will always favour those who uplift others and condemn those who allow pride to destroy unity. Our community deserves better leaders who respect our culture, cooperate with our traditional institutions, and act with humility.”

Michika Has Moved Forward

In their concluding remarks, the MCC urged Boni Haruna to “swallow his pride” and accept the reality that Michika has moved forward without him.

“The people of Michika have reclaimed their destiny and found a new sense of pride and belonging under the leadership of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and the guidance of HRM Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga,” they said.

“The former governor can no longer stand in the way of progress. The era of neglect is over and Michika will continue to rise.”
