Adamawa Executive Council Approves Over ₦23 Billion for Major Infrastructure Projects

The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved a series of major infrastructure projects valued at over ₦23 billion, marking another significant milestone in Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s drive for urban renewal and sustainable development across the state.

The approvals were granted during the council meeting held on Wednesday at the Government House, Yola, with Governor Fintiri presiding.

Massive Investments Across Key Sectors

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, explained that the approved projects cover critical areas including road construction, street lighting, urban beautification, and consultancy services for various development initiatives.

According to him, the council sanctioned the construction, rehabilitation, and expansion of several key roads in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area. These include:

Abdullahi Bashir Waziri Street
Bekaji Road
Popule Street and its links
GGSS Yola internal roads

The total cost for these road projects is ₦13 billion, aimed at improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion, and boosting economic activity within the urban center.

Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall Upgrade

The council also approved additional works at the ongoing Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall Project, which include the construction of road networks, drainage systems, landscaping, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights.
These enhancements are valued at ₦5.6 billion, and are expected to transform the facility into one of the state’s top commercial hubs.

Adamawa International Sports Complex (Phase Two)

In a further show of commitment to youth and sports development, the council approved Phase Two of the Adamawa State International Sports Complex Project.
This phase, divided into five lots, will cost ₦3.6 billion. Dr. Pella noted that Phase One of the project is already progressing steadily toward completion, setting the stage for Adamawa to become a leading destination for sports in Nigeria.

Solar-Powered Streetlights for Safer, Greener Cities

To enhance security and promote clean energy adoption, the council approved the procurement and installation of solar-powered streetlights along key routes in Yola. These include:

Galadima Aminu Way
Gimba Dual Carriageway
Bekaji Dual Carriageway
Mubi Road
A.A. Lawan Flyover

The streetlight project, valued at ₦1.3 billion, will not only illuminate major roads but also help reduce power costs and carbon emissions, aligning with global sustainable development goals.

Support for Traditional Institutions and Public Offices

The council further approved consultancy services for the design and post-design of perimeter fences and gatehouses at the palaces of the newly created chiefdoms, as well as for the construction of the Adamawa Traditional Rulers Secretariat Complex, at a total cost of ₦212 million.

Additionally, consultancy contracts worth ₦133 million were approved for the design and post-design of office complexes for both the Adamawa State Urban and Regional Planning Development Authority and the Adamawa State Post Primary Schools Management Board.

Driving Adamawa’s Vision of Modern Development

These new projects form part of Governor Fintiri’s ongoing “Fresh Air” agenda, which focuses on delivering modern infrastructure, empowering communities, and enhancing social services across all local government areas.

Observers note that the Fintiri administration’s consistent investment in infrastructure has positioned Adamawa as one of the most progressive states in Northern Nigeria, with visible improvements in roads, education, healthcare, and public utilities.
