PAWECA’s Dr. Zira Reaffirms Disability-First Approach in Fintiri Business Wallet Programme

The Director-General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), Dr. Michael Zira, has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) are given top priority in all empowerment programmes implemented by the agency.

Dr. Zira made this known in his office in Yola during a courtesy visit by the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Adamawa State Chapter.

He emphasized that PWDs remain a core beneficiary group of the Fintiri Business Wallet, an initiative of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri aimed at promoting inclusive economic growth and financial empowerment. Dr. Zira assured the association that their members would continue to enjoy equitable participation in the next phase of the empowerment scheme.

“Governor Fintiri’s vision is clear — no one should be left behind in the journey toward shared prosperity. Persons with disabilities are not only beneficiaries but also active contributors to the state’s development agenda,” Dr. Zira stated.

The PAWECA boss further highlighted that many social vices among youths are driven by idleness and lack of productive engagement, stressing that the agency is committed to creating meaningful opportunities that will keep young people active, focused, and productive.

Dr. Zira also commended Governor Fintiri for his continued investment in infrastructure, social welfare, and human capital development, describing his administration as one that prioritizes equity, inclusivity, and justice for all. He appealed for sustained peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among citizens of diverse backgrounds and faiths to ensure lasting progress across Adamawa State.

Earlier in his remarks, Engineer Sani Sabo, Chairman of JONAPWD Adamawa State Chapter, expressed appreciation to Dr. Zira for his unwavering support and partnership during the previous Business Wallet initiative. He noted that the visit was to strengthen collaboration and ensure even greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in future empowerment programmes.

Engineer Sabo also appealed to the agency to consider constructing a stage-lifting pavement at PAWECA’s headquarters to enhance accessibility for members with mobility challenges, in line with modern standards of inclusivity.

“Accessibility is key to participation. We hope PAWECA will continue to champion inclusive policies and infrastructure that reflect the governor’s vision of equal opportunity for all citizens,” he added.

The meeting ended on a note of mutual understanding, with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing disability inclusion, empowerment, and equal opportunity in Adamawa State.
