The organisation focuses on forest-risk commodity supply chains, including palm oil, timber, cocoa, rubber, beef, soy, leather, cotton, and wood. These commodities are major drivers of deforestation and human rights abuses, particularly in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Earthsight works at the intersection of investigative research, campaigning, and policy advocacy to challenge corporate greenwashing and promote accountability.

Available Researcher / Campaigner Roles

Earthsight is recruiting for two regional Researcher / Campaigner positions, both offered under identical employment terms.

1. Researcher / Campaigner – Southeast Asia & Africa

This role focuses on investigative work in Southeast Asia and Africa, with particular reference to countries such as Indonesia, West Africa, and the Congo Basin. The primary commodity focus includes palm oil, rubber, cocoa, pulp, paper, and wood.

2. Researcher / Campaigner – Latin America

This role concentrates on Latin America, with a focus on countries such as Brazil and Paraguay. Key commodities include beef, leather, soy, cotton, and wood.

Both roles are embedded within Earthsight’s research and advocacy teams and contribute directly to major investigations and campaigns.

Eligibility Criteria

General Requirements (Both Roles)

Applicants must:

Have at least two years of professional experience as a researcher or campaigner in environmental protection, forestry, climate change, human rights, or related fields
Demonstrate strong research and/or campaigning skills
Be able to analyse complex information from multiple sources
Have excellent written English skills suitable for public-facing reports and advocacy materials
Show strong attention to detail and factual accuracy
Be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Be self-motivated and able to work collaboratively within a small team
Demonstrate commitment to Earthsight’s mission and values
Be capable of building professional relationships with journalists, NGOs, policymakers, and researchers

Applicants of all nationalities are welcome. While candidates are preferably based in the UK, Earthsight offers hybrid and flexible working arrangements, with regular attendance at the London office strongly preferred.

Role-Specific Skills and Experience

Southeast Asia & Africa Role

Ideal candidates may have:

Research experience in Indonesia, West Africa, or the Congo Basin
Experience working with shipment records or satellite imagery
Fluency in Indonesian or French

Desirable skills include GIS knowledge, OSINT or investigative research training, and familiarity with timber trade and certification systems.

Latin America Role

Applicants must have at least basic knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish. Ideal candidates may also have:

Research experience in Latin America
Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish
Experience using satellite imagery or shipment data

Desirable skills include digital storytelling, GIS, OSINT or investigative research training, and social media content creation.
