WHO DOES FINTIRI'S BIG SHOE SIZE FITS? by George Kushi
As the election year 2027 fast approaches political gladiators in Adamawa are fast throwing their gaunlets as contestants and even more so as pretenders to an oversized shoe. What is in contest is the seat in Adamawa state government House,a seat so enlarged to the extent that the next occupant must dare tremendous odds of not being a failure.
When Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri became the governor of Adamawa state in 2019,I wrote an article where I said ,I do not envy him because of the daunting task ahead. But the man performed beyond my expectations. Now ,who can outdo him? It takes indomitable courage and foresight to transform this provincial state capital to be what it is today.
As president Bola Ahmed Tinubu comes to Adamawa state,he will no doubt be fascinated by what he will see and pray that all state will emulate the miraculous transformation in Adamawa state.
Adamawa state is at the threshold of creating history by the simple narrative of six years of transformation. Transformation that transcends party lines. A transformation beyond APC ,PDP, ADC, LP or any other political formation. In Adamawa the Fintiri phenomenon holds sway. Even his worst critics are mum and cannot deny what he has done for the state.
To campaign for the seat, one can only claim to continue where he left off. To succeed him one needs his anointing to continue from where he will hand over!
The people of Adamawa had a covenant with Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri that he has kept. The fact that many appear to early to covet the office before he tops the icing on the cake is not surprising. Had the Constitution created room for more tenures,we would have selfishly loved it. But we cannot continue to have him ,we won't be too selfish not to share with the nation at large. He is a national asset to be shared. He has changed Adamawa state for good. He has wiped out tribal and religious sentiments that have bedeviling the state, built infrastructure that made the state a model in Nigeria ,reduced banditry and )Boko Haram terror ,reduced farmer/ herders clashes to the barest and much more.
A man that has made all citizens feel like governor's and not the governed deserves accolades. He is a governor that governs with the people's hearts.
So when next you think you want to be governor or Adamawa, ask yourself a very simple question of whether you can step into Fintiri's big size shoes of developmental progress.
