Mahmood Halilu Ahmed was born on December 19 1973 to the family of late Alhaji Halilu Ahmed Chiroma and Hajiya Fadimatu Alkali Abba from Yola South Local Government Area (LGA), of Adamawa State. 


He attended Mustafa Primary School Yola, and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1984. His Secondary School Education was at Yelwa Government Secondary School Yola, where he obtained the West African School certificate in 1989. On completion, he was admitted into the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 1992 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (BS.c) in Business Administration in 1998.

In 2000, he performed his mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Petroleum Special Trust Fund (PSTF), Abuja. Subsequently, he returned to ABU Zaria for his Master degrees in Business Administration (MBA) and International Affairs and Diplomacy in 2005 and 2009 respectively. 


He was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by Crescent University, Abeokuta in 2017.  


In 2002, he venture into the private sector by setting up a Forex Trading company and Real Estate development. In 2007, he diversified into investment, communication, healthcare, logistics, hospitality, tourism, and corporate support services, rising through the rank from 2002 to 2017, where he rose to become the Chairman Board of Directors of Hinterland Group of Companies and Bedmod Integrated Farm Limited. 


In the course of his career, Mahmood venture into politics and in 2007, and contested for the House of Representatives, representing Yola North, Yola South and Girei Federal Constituency under the platform of ANPP.  


In 2011, he served in two adhoc committees during the Presidential election under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and participated in the formation of the current ruling party, APC. 


In 2019 he participated in the primaries for the office of the Governor of Adamawa State. Ahmed is happily married to Mrs. Habiba Bello Isah Bayero and the union is blessed with three children Ibrahim, Mohammed and Fatima. His hobbies are reading, travelling and playing gulf.


As a Participant of Senior Executive Course 43, Ahmed researched on the topic: “Internally Displaced Persons and Population Resettlement in Adamawa State, Nigeria.”
