NBC's Fall 2023 Schedule: Premiere Dates and Changes

NBC is making significant changes to its fall 2023 schedule, and we've got all the premiere dates for the upcoming season. The network initially revealed its fall lineup on May 12, amidst the writers' strike that caused major disruptions in Hollywood productions. However, with the strike still ongoing and SAG-AFTRA joining the picket lines, NBC has been compelled to alter its plans.

Notably, the Wednesday night "One Chicago" block is no longer part of the schedule. Additionally, "Law & Order" and "Law & Order: SVU" won't air on Thursdays anymore. Instead, on Wednesday, Sept. 27, the season finale of "America's Got Talent" will be broadcasted, followed by the People's Choice Country Awards on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Starting Oct. 4, the network will air reruns of "One Chicago" shows at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, followed by new episodes of "Quantum Leap" and "Magnum P.I." "Quantum Leap" had already completed most of its second season before the writers' strike, while "Magnum P.I." will premiere the second part of its fifth and final season after moving to NBC from CBS.

From Oct. 5, "Law & Order" reruns will air on Thursdays, followed by the third season of the Canadian medical drama "Transplant."

Moreover, NBC has officially removed the returning comedy "Night Court" and the new comedy "Extended Family" from its fall schedule. Instead, on Tuesdays starting Oct. 3, "The Voice" will air for two hours, followed by the new drama "Found," which had already finished filming its first season before the writers' strike. On Oct. 10, the first hour of "The Voice" will be a recap of the previous night's episode.

Fortunately, NBC's planned Monday lineup remains unchanged, with the new drama "The Irrational" premiering on Sept. 25 after "The Voice." "The Irrational" had also wrapped up filming prior to the writers' strike.

As for midseason and summer 2024, NBC has announced the debut of various shows, including "Untitled America's Got Talent Series," "Deal or No Deal Island," "Password," "The America’s," "Law & Order: Organized Crime," "Lopez vs Lopez," and "La Brea." Furthermore, the game show "The Wall" will return on Fridays, starting Nov. 3.

It's worth noting that NBC is taking a different approach compared to ABC and CBS, who are relying on shows from their parent companies to supplement their schedules due to the lack of returning originals. For instance, CBS announced that "Yellowstone" will make its broadcast debut on the network this fall, while ABC is airing the Disney+ series "Ms. Marvel" starting in August.
