Ayuba Danbaki, a 35-year-old man from Rigi community in Ga'anda District, Gombi LGA, was apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly murdering his 2-year-old daughter, Tamar Ayuba.

The tragic incident occurred after Tamar's mother left her with Ayuba at a local gathering where he was drinking.

Fueled by anger over his former wife's actions, Ayuba took the child into the nearby woods, strangled her with a rope, and buried her in a shallow grave.

Upon being questioned about his understanding of the consequences, Ayuba claimed ignorance, stating that many in their community were unaware of the gravity of such a crime.

Tamar's mother, Shiyona Ali, a 30-year-old former wife of Ayuba, reported the matter to the police on August 28, 2023, leading to Ayuba's arrest. He eventually guided law enforcement to the burial site.

During an interrogation by SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Public Relations Officer of the Police Command, Ayuba confessed, admitting that his impulsive act was driven by anger over his ex-wife's decision. He described the grim details of his actions, regretfully acknowledging the weight of his mistake.

Ayuba also seized the opportunity to discourage alcohol consumption, particularly "burukutu," a local beer, citing its negative effects.

He warned that excessive drinking could lead to regrettable actions due to impaired judgment. SP Nguroje revealed that Commissioner of Police, CP Babatola Afolabi, ordered the case's transfer to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a discreet inquiry.

The Police Commissioner is committed to ensuring Ayuba's prosecution upon completion of the investigation, while also cautioning the public against taking the law into their own hands.
