Job Summary

CARE is seeking a Natural Resource Management (NRM) Officer to support the successful management and implementation of the Regreening Africa II project. The ideal candidate will bring strong project management and technical expertise in sustainable natural resource management, climate change, resilience, and environmental sustainability.

The NRM Officer will work closely with stakeholders, including local communities and institutions, to promote land, water, and agricultural conservation while integrating environmental and social safeguards into the project.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Responsibilities

✅ Provide expertise in agronomy, agribusiness, climate-smart agriculture, income-generating activities (IGA), and natural resource management.
✅ Promote modern farming practices and train farmers to transition from subsistence to commercial farming.
✅ Facilitate tree planting initiatives at household and community levels to restore depleted forest cover.
✅ Establish demonstration plots for farmer training and learning.
✅ Support farmer behavioral change programs from traditional to regenerative and climate-adaptive agriculture.
✅ Collaborate with partners on forest and rangeland management to enhance environmental sustainability.
✅ Identify innovative livelihood programs suited to different community needs.
✅ Develop and oversee seedling production plans and assist farmers in diversifying with indigenous tree species.
✅ Lead field research, site assessments, and stakeholder mapping to improve project impact.
✅ Facilitate training sessions and provide technical assistance to community groups.
✅ Develop and implement risk management strategies to address environmental concerns.

2. Reporting & Data Management

📊 Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Specialist to ensure accurate project reporting.
📊 Prepare periodic reports detailing project progress, challenges, and recommendations.
📊 Assist in the documentation of project results, best practices, and lessons learned.

3. Capacity Building & Community Engagement

👩‍🏫 Conduct training workshops and mentorship programs for local farmers and community members.
🤝 Organize and support community forest and rangeland cooperatives.
📢 Raise awareness and advocate for environmental conservation and climate resilience.

4. Strategic Engagement & Stakeholder Collaboration

🌍 Develop partnerships with government agencies, private sector partners, and NGOs.
📌 Represent CARE in national, regional, and global environmental platforms.
🔍 Participate in in-person workshops, conferences, and training programs.
💡 Engage with local leaders, farmers, and climate advocates to drive project success.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

🎓 Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Forestry, or a related field.
📌 Minimum 3 years of experience in natural resource management, climate change adaptation, and sustainable agriculture.
📌 Experience working with EU donors and knowledge of environmental project regulations.
📌 Understanding of carbon credits, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and regenerative agriculture.
📌 Proven experience leading technical studies, environmental impact assessments, and policy evaluations.
📌 Strong ability to engage senior stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
📌 Skilled in staff training, mentorship, and stakeholder relationship management.
📌 Fluency in English with strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

✔ Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, or related field.
✔ 5+ years of experience in natural resource management and climate resilience programs.
